The Santa Barbara area is a great location for a workshop!
Introductory workshops are limited to small groups of eight, and emphasize applying ATLAS.ti to your current project. Following are the format of the workshop, the daily schedulefees & policies, and information about the workshop location.

Small group format
Each workshop is for two days, with an option for additional coaching days, and is limited to eight people. The small group format allows maximum personal attention and one-on-one coaching throughout. Even if you have been using ATLAS.ti, the workshop always starts from ground zero to give you a thorough foundation in the basics. The following is a typical curriculum, but is tailored to your needs, existing skills, and the status of your current project.
  • Day 1 covers the basic concepts behind the program and its features; strategies for setting up your project and designing your data analysis; using ATLAS.ti appropriately for different approaches to qualitative research; and the theory and practice of coding.
  • Day 2 covers the advanced features of the program, focusing on the use of graphical networks from the very beginning stages of your project; strategies for using complex retrievals with the Query Tool; and strategies and tools for teamworking.
A manual is provided that introduces important concepts about how ATLAS.ti works, highlights common mistakes and misunderstandings, and points out useful tricks and time savers.

Daily schedule
The workshop is all day Friday and Saturday, allowing a Saturday night stay for cheaper airfare and hopefully an extra day to enjoy Santa Barbara. Each day's schedule is as follows:

8:45 - 9:00  Setting up, introductions, reading course materials, practice, and questions.

9:00 - 4:30  Formal instruction, with lunch break 12:00 - 1:00 at nearby restaurants.

4:30 - 5:00  Optional time for additional practice, coaching and questions.

Fees and policies
The workshop fee is $600 academic or non-profit, and $900 corporate. If you have already attended the workshop in Santa Barbara, and now plan to take it again, and the workshop is not fully subscribed, the fee is 50% of these amounts.

A place is tentatively held for you as soon as you submit the Registration Form. Your place will be reserved on receipt of your payment, and will be confirmed by email. Once eight places are confirmed, other participants will be turned away and your fee will become non-refundable. However, if you do cancel in this situation and another participant registers and takes your place, then your full fee would be refunded.

We will notify you as soon as the minimum number of participants have registered to allow you to make travel arrangements. Please do not make non-refundable air reservations before this time. In the unusual situation that the minimum number of participants have not registered by two weeks before the workshop is due to take place, the workshop will be cancelled, and if you have already paid, your full fee will be refunded, or if you prefer, you may switch to a different date.

Workshop location
The workshop is held in Carpinteria, a small beach town 10 miles south of Santa Barbara. Accomodation and restaurants are in close walking distance. Carpinteria is approximately 25 minutes from Santa Barbara airport, and approximately 75 minutes from Los Angeles airport, depending on traffic. Full directions will be emailed after your registration is confirmed.
